What is TeamSpeak?

TeamSpeak  is a free to download application for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and Mobile OS's,  that allows voice to communications with each other people. TeamSpeak  uses advanced technology to deliver high quality voice, text and files to users of a TeamSpeak 3 server. TeamSpeak 3 includes the ability to manage who can access what levels of functionality and gives a great deal of power to server administrators for managing a Voice-Over-IP server.

How do I log into a TeamSpeak 3 server?

To log into a TeamSpeak 3 server you must first install TeamSpeak 3. *NOTE: TeamSpeak 2 clients can NOT connect to TeamSpeak 3 servers.

  1. Start the TeamSpeak 3 client program
  2. Click the "Connections" menu item in the TeamSpeak 3 menu.
  3. Click on the "Connect" option from the drop down menu.
  4. Type your username,  AND guildshout,com separated by a period in the "Server Address" field in the "Connect" dialog window. That means if your server hostname is "example.guildshout.com.com"
  5. Enter a nickname in the "Nickname" field. This will show up as your name in the TeamSpeak 3 client interface to other users in your channels and servers.
  6. Enter a password in the "Server Password" field ONLY if there is a server password or a temporary password set up on the server.
  7. If you are signing on to a TeamSpeak 3 server for the first time with a "privilege key" you can paste the privilege key into the "One-Time Privilege Key" field.  This key is given to you when you obtain a server on Guildshout.
  8. Click the "Connect" button. You should be connected to the TeamSpeak 3 server.

 

How can I log in as an Administrator?

To do this you must have administrative privileges to gain administrative access on TeamSpeak 3. There are two ways to utilize this privilege keys on a TeamSpeak3 server.

  1. Log in from the Connect screen with the administrative privilege key given on Guildshout.com.
  2. Use an administrative privilege key while logged into a TeamSpeak 3 server using the "Tools" menu.
To log in to a TeamSpeak 3 server with a privilege key follow the instructions in the How do I Log on to a TeamSpeak 3 server FAQ.
  1. Before clicking the "Connect" button on the "Connect" dialog window populate the "One-Time Privilege Key" field with the privilege key obtained from your administrator or your guildshout.com control panel.
To use an administrative privilege key if you are already logged on to the TeamSpeak 3 server follow these steps:
  1. Click the "Permissions" menu item from the TeamSpeak 3 menu.
  2. Click the "Use privilege Key" option in the Menu drop down.
  3. Enter your privilege key in the "Use Privilege Key" dialog window that pops up.
  4. Press the "OK" button. You will notice a new group icon next to your name in the TeamSpeak 3 client interface.

 

What is a privilege key?

A privilege key is an alpha numeric string that looks like this "cUVp00zk53prR7Q5ZEJt82R2jaKHe+GNQTM9aOFB". This string can then be used on log in or after log in to grant the level of permission for the entire server or a particular channel.   Privilege keys are one time use passwords that grant a certain level of permissions and rights on a server. There can be administrative permission keys and restricted privilege keys

 

How do I get a privilege key for TeamSpeak?

A privilege key can be generated from the guildshout.com control panel or from the TeamSpeak 3 client interface by a Server Admin. You are mailed an Administrative Privilege Key when you first purchase your server from guildshout.com

  1. To generate a privilege key from the guildshout.com control panel follow these steps:
    1. Log into your guildshout.com account.
    2. Go to your Control Panel.
    3. Under "My Server" menu select "Edit Configuration".
    4. On the "Administrative Privilege Key" information display select "Generate".  Also notice that you can delete any other Keys you may have on your server.
  2. To generate a privilege key from the TeamSpeak 3 client interface follow these steps:
    1. Open TeamSpeak 3 client and connect to your TeamSpeak server.
    2. Click on the "Permissions" menu.
    3. Click the "Privilege Keys".
    4. Click the "Create" button on the "Privilege Keys" window.
    5. Select what  "Type"  of Key you are creating on the drop down button.
    6. If you select "Server Group" you will then select a  group that the privilege key will grant access to: Guest, Normal, Server Admin.
    7. If you select "Channel Group' you will then select what group for a particular channel: Guest, Voice, Channel Operator, Channel Admin.
    8. For Channel Group privilege keys you will then select which channel the privilege key applies to.
    9. Click the "Create" button. This will populate the "Generated Privilege key" field with an alpha numeric key. You will need send this key to the person being granted the privilege.
    10. Click the "Close" button. You will see the generated privilege key in the Privilege Keys window until it is used. You can remove keys before they are used.

 

How do I use a privilege key?

There are two way you can use a key a "Privilege Key" on Teamspeak 3.

  1. When connecting to a Teamspeak 3 server:
    1. Click the "Connections" button from the TeamSpeak 3 menu.
    2. Click the "Connect" option.
    3. Add  the "Server Address", Nickname, and optionally the server password if required.
    4. Copy and paste in the privilege key from guildshout.com into "One-Time Privilege Key".
    5. On connection you will be given the privilege level attached to the key.
  2. Via the "Permissions" menu::
    1. Click on the "Permissions" menu item in the menu.
    2. Click on the "Use Privilege key".
    3. Paste the privilege key into the "Enter Privilege Key".
    4. Click the "OK" button.

 

How can I restrict access to my TeamSpeak server?

There are several ways to restrict access to your TeamSpeak 3 server. Either initially or after a user has connected.

  1. Temporary Password. This allows users to join your server for a given period of time. To add a temporary password follow these steps.
    1. Right click the server name at the top of the channel list in TeamSpeak 3.
    2. Click "Add Temporary Password" selection.
    3. Enter a password in the "Temporary Password" field.
    4. Optionally fill out the description field.
    5. Set an expiration time for the password. When this time has expired it will no longer allow access.
    6. Select the channel that users should be added to..
    7. You can also set a secondary channel password.
    8. Click "OK".
  2. Channel Password. You can set a password on specific channels that will limit access to the channels:
    1. Right click the channel you want to restrict.
    2. Click the "Edit Channel" option.
    3. Click in the "Password" field and enter a password.
    4. When entering the channel, all users will be required to enter the password.
  3. Kicking user. Users can be kicked the server for maintenance or bad behavior. . Only administrators can kick or ban. To Kick a user follow these steps:
    1. Right click the users name in the TeamSpeak 3.
    2. Click the "Kick client from server".
    3. Enter a reason for the kick. This reason will show up on the client after the disconnect message in the console.
    4. Click "OK" the user will immediately disconnect.
  4. Ban User. Users can be banned for server maintenance or bad behavior. Bans can be infinite in length or limited to a given time span. Only administrators can ban users. To ban a user follow these steps:
    1. Right click the user name in the TeamSpeak 3 client interface.
    2. Click the "Ban Client" in the drop down list.
    3. You can enter a reason for the ban or select from a preset of reasons for ban.
    4. You can select duration for the ban. Permanent will be an infinite ban unless the ban is deleted.
    5. To set a time length limited ban select the drop down under the duration and select "seconds, minutes, hours or days"
    6. Enter the number of seconds, hours, minutes or days the ban should be in effect in the duration numeric field.

 

How do I create Channels on my TeamSpeak server?

You can create channels on your TeamSpeak 3 server using the guildshout.com control panel interface or the TeamSpeak 3 client interface. Note: The default channel creation using the TeamSpeak interface creates a TEMPORARY channel unless otherwise specified.

  1. To create a channel using the guildshout.com control panel follow these steps:
    1. Log into your guildshout.com control panel.
    2. Click the "Edit Channels" link under the "My Server" menu.
    3. Click the "Create Channel" button.
    4. Input the name of the channel you wish to create on the new window.
    5. Choose the option to which channel you wish to parent it.
    6. Click the "Save changes" button.
  2. To create a channel using the TeamSpeak 3 follow these steps:
    1. Right click the server name in the channel list.
    2. Click the "Create Channel" option.
    3. Fill "Name" with the desired channel name.
    4. Optionally supply a password.
    5. Optionally supply a topic.
    6. Optionally supply a description.
    7. Select the channel type:
      1. Temporary will go away when all users leave.
      2. Semi-Permanent will stay until a server restart
      3. Permanent will stay until deleted.
    8. Select a channel to sort the new channel under. This is equivalent to creating a sub channel.
    9. The Audio tab allows to you select a relative quality and bandwidth selection for the channel.
    10. The Permissions tab will allow you to set advanced permissions.
    11. The Advanced tab will allow you to set a phonetic name for the text to speech function, set voice data encryption, and limit the number of allowed users in the channel.

 

How do I setup my microphone and sound options?

To start the Setup Wizard follows these steps:

  1. Click the "Settings" menu item from the TeamSpeak3 menu.
  2. Click on "Setup Wizard" option.
  3. Follow the steps in the wizard.
You can set up advanced audio settings or troubleshoot from the TeamSpeak 3 options screens:
  1. Click on "Settings" on window menu.
  2. Click on "Options"  menu.
  3. Click on "Playback" item in the left column options window.
  4. Use the "Playback Mode" to trouble shoot sound issues.
  5. Use the "Playback Device" to select output device such as external speakers, USB Headphones or front panel headphones.
  6. Use the sliders to adjust the relative volume.

 

How do I setup a push-to-talk hotkey?

You can set up your push to talk key with the Setup Wizard.

  1. Click the on Settings menu.
  2. Click on the "Setup Wizard" menu.
  3. Click on the "Next" button.
  4. Set a Name if desired, click Next.
  5. Select the "Push-to-Talk" button.
  6. Click the button to the right of the "Push to talk" button. You will see a gray square with "Press Hotkey Combination". Press the key or combination of keys you want to use.

 

What are Server Groups and how are they used?

You can create a server group that allows some basic access for allied guilds/teams for raids. You could create to distinguish between allied leadership and normal allied users:

  1. Click  on the "Permissions" menu.
  2. Click on "Server Groups" item or ctrl + F1.
  3. From the Permissions window you can create both Server and Channel groups.
  4. Click on the "plus" sign at the bottom to start creating a new group.
  5. Enter a server group name in the "Add Server Group" window.
  6. Select on, Server Admin, Guest or Normal. You will pre-load some permissions with the template, all permissions will be editable after the group is created.
  7. Select  the new Group in the left most window of the Permissions window.
  8. Set the group options you desire. Read each option carefully. Options are grouped into Administrate Server, Manage Groups, Administrate clients etc. You can select individual permissions on the check.
  9. Users can then be assigned to the group created.

 

How do I transfer my unique identity between computers?

Your identity is connected to the specific TeamSpeak3 client installation that you initially sign into a server with. If you sign into the same server with a different computer your unique identity will most likely be different. To have the same identity with multiple client installations you will need to do the following. To Export follow these steps:

  1. Click on "Settings".
  2. Click on "Identities" menu.
  3. Select the Identity you wish to export from the list.
  4. Select the "Export" button at the upper right of the "Identities" window.
  5. Click the "Yes" button on the "Warning" pop up. * If someone gets a hold of an exported identity they can completely take over your identity.
  6. Select a location to export.
  7. The file saved will be a .ini file that you will copy to a computer.
To import follow this steps.
  1. Open TeamSpeak 3 and click on the Settings menu.
  2. Click on "Identities" menu item.
  3. Click on "Import" button.
  4. Locate the .ini file you exported from your previous TeamSpeak 3 installation.
  5. Double click the .ini file
  6. You can now select the imported identity when connecting to a server.

 

How do I turn off notification flooding?

When joining a very crowded server the server will notify you of all the people currently in the channel. To turn off all notifications or just channel join notifications follow these steps:

  1. Click the "Settings" menu.
  2. Click the "Options" menu.
  3. Click on the "Notification" label.
  4. You can remove all client interface sounds by selecting the "Sounds deactivated" sound pack.
  5. To remove just the client connected follow these steps:
    1. Select the "Client" action group.
    2. Select the "Connected" sub group.
    3. Uncheck the "Current channel" checkbox.
  6. Click "OK" on the "Options".

 

How can I ban/unban a user?

Users can be banned for server maintenance or bad behavior. Only administrators can ban users. To ban  follow these steps:

  1. Right click the user name in the TeamSpeak 3.
  2. Click the "Ban Client".
  3. Select from a preset of reasons for ban. or you can enter a reason for the ban.
  4. You can select duration for the ban.
  5. To set a time length limited ban select the drop down under the duration.
  6. Enter the number of seconds, hours, minutes or days the ban should be in effect.

 

How do I set a server password?

To set your server Global Password follow these steps:

  1. Log into your control panel interface at https://www.guildshout.com
  2. Under "My Account" click on "Edit Configuration".
  3. On the "General Settings" window Type new password on "Server Password".
  4. Click on "Save Changes".

 

Can I use TeamSpeak with my mobile device (iPhone, iPad, Android, etc)?

There are Applications for TeamSpeak 3 clients on Android and iOS.

 

How do I change the look and feel of my TeamSpeak client or install a custom theme?

You can create or download custom themes from many places around the internet. You can change the overall look and feel by applying a custom theme to TeamSpeak 3. To apply a theme follow these steps at teamspeak.com 

 

How do I change the banner on my server?

In order to change your TeamSpeak 3 server's Hosting Banner, you must first be logged in with an account that has administrative privileges on the server.

  1. Make sure you are a Server Administrator, and right-click on your server's root node.
  2. Select the option "Edit Virtual Server"
  3. At the bottom-left side click the "More" button. If it already says "Less", skip this step.
  4. Select the "Host" Tab.
  5. In the middle section "Host Banner", change the "Banner Gfx URL" to the image of your choice. Note that the image must be accessible by a browser, and not stored on your home computer!
  6. You may optionally wish to change the "URL" field to point to your website.
  7. Last, you may optionally wish to change the Re size property to the option of your choice.

 

Why do my channels disappear?

The default channel type is "Temporary" if not specified as permanent. That means that when there is no one in the channel it will disappear. Alternatively all channels created using your guildshout.com control panel interface will be permanent. See How can I create a channel?

 

What is the difference between a Permanent, semi-permanent and a temporary channel?

When creating a channel one TeamSpeak 3 application you can select a channel type.

  1. Temporary channels disappear when the last person leaves the channel.
  2. Semi-Permanent channels will stay even when there is no one in the channel but will not continue past a server restart or server restore.
  3. Permanent channels will always exist until manually deleted.

 

What is the Server Query port?

The Server Query Port is 10011.

 

How do I configure my TeamSpeak server to kick idle users?

  1. Open the TeamSpeak 3 application.
  2. Before connecting to your server, go to Settings > Options.
  3. On  the Options window, please select Application.
  4. Next, place a check mark in the Advanced Permissions System checkbox.
  5. click Apply, then OK, in the lower right corner of the Options window.
  6. Connect to your TeamSpeak 3.
  7. After you have connected, navigate to Permissions > Server Groups.
  8. In the left box of the Permissions window, select Guest (or whatever group you wish to apply this setting to).
  9. Next, locate the Filter box in the center of the Permissions window and key in, "i_client_max_idletime".
  10. After you have done so, the Max Idle Time (Seconds) Permission will appear. Please right-click on the Max Idle Time (Seconds) Permission and select Add Permission.
  11. Next, key in the value (in seconds) you desire, in the Value field.
  12. After you have done so, users in the Guest Group of your TeamSpeak 3 server will be automatically Kicked from your TeamSpeak 3 server after the specified idle.
